Luggage

Put the bag down. Enjoy the event.

A suitcase is dead weight at a festival, a match or a gig. Hong Kong gives you three good ways to be rid of it for the day: the staffed left luggage counters at the airport and Hong Kong Station, the lockers at the high-speed rail terminus in West Kowloon, and booked storage in a shop near the venue. This page sets out how each one works and what it costs.

Three ways to store a bag

Hong Kong's storage landscape is built around staffed counters rather than the rows of coin lockers you find in Japanese stations. The airport runs a proper left luggage counter, the Airport Express terminus at Hong Kong Station runs a left baggage service of its own, and the high-speed rail station at West Kowloon has a left baggage service and lockers. On top of that, booked shop storage through Bounce puts a counter within a short walk of most venues. One warning before the details: the SF Locker cabinets you will see all over the city are parcel lockers, for dropping off and collecting S.F. Express shipments under its terms of carriage, not for storing a traveller's suitcase.

At the airport: the left luggage counter

The airport's secure short-term baggage storage facility is on Level 5 of Terminal 1, in the non-restricted area, and it is run by S.F. Express, whose enquiry line for the service is open from 05:30 to 01:30 daily. Standard storage, for an item of 30 kg or less whose three sides total no more than 199 cm, costs HK$14 per hour or HK$165 per day, charged at whichever is less in any 24-hour period; oversize and overweight items cost more. You pay on collection, by cash, Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, Alipay, WeChat Pay, Apple Pay or Samsung Pay, and anything left uncollected for 30 days is treated as unclaimed. For a long layover or a last day in the city after an airport hotel checkout, this is the simplest pair of hands at the airport itself.

At the stations: Hong Kong Station and West Kowloon

Hong Kong Station, the city terminus of the Airport Express, has its own left baggage service at Level G, near Exit B in the in-town check-in hall, open from 7:30 am to 9:30 pm daily. The published charges are HK$60 per item for up to 3 hours, HK$87 per item for 3 to 24 hours, and HK$133 more for each additional 24 hours. The standard size is 85 x 85 x 29 cm or under and 30 kg or under, larger and heavier bags are charged in multiples, and payment is on collection, cash only, in Hong Kong dollars.

Across the harbour, Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, the high-speed rail terminus, has a left baggage service and baggage lockers at shop G-2, on the ground level near Exit B, a locker option the railway itself publishes. The station does not publish prices for it, so check at the shop before you rely on it for a full day.

Bounce: booked storage in shops across the city

Bounce is the app-based option: local shops and hotels take your bag behind the counter, you book and pay in advance through its app or website, and its Hong Kong page lists 58 storage spots across the city, near stations and venues alike, from HK$35.00 per bag per day. Bookings can be cancelled free of charge, Bounce puts no size or quantity limit on bags, and every booking carries $10,000 of protection for your belongings. It is the flexible choice when the event is nowhere near the airport or the two stations above.
