Hong Kong Art Week 2027: Art Basel, Art Central and the festival around them

Art Basel Hong Kong runs 25 to 27 March 2027 at the convention centre, Art Central opens the day before on the harbourfront, and the Hong Kong Arts Festival closes the same weekend. How to do the week.

For one week each March, Hong Kong is the centre of the Asian art market. The 2027 edition is anchored by two fairs a harbour apart, and it lands on the Easter weekend, which makes the city fuller and the week better. The dates below are confirmed by the organisers; each has its own page on this calendar.

The two fairs

Art Basel Hong Kong runs its public days from 25 to 27 March 2027 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. It is the heavyweight: galleries from across the world, and sectors the fair itself names Galleries, Insights, Discoveries, Encounters, Kabinett and Film. Art Central runs 24 to 28 March in its tents at the Central Harbourfront Event Space, younger in spirit, strong on emerging Asia, and the easier of the two for a first fair visit. Doing both is a day each, not a morning: Basel for the market's centre of gravity, Central for energy and the harbour setting.

Around the fairs

The Hong Kong Arts Festival runs from 18 February to 27 March 2027, so art week is also the festival's closing week, with the programme at the Cultural Centre and across the city's stages. The gallery districts open late all week: Hollywood Road and Sheung Wan above Central, the warehouse galleries of Wong Chuk Hang on the south side, and the two big museums of the West Kowloon Cultural District, M+ and the Hong Kong Palace Museum, both covered on our Hong Kong attractions page. Satellite exhibitions and openings fill the gaps; the pattern is a fair by day and the districts by evening.

The practical shape of the week

Good Friday, 26 March, is a general holiday in Hong Kong, and the Easter weekend runs to Easter Monday on 29 March, so half the city is off work while the art world is in town. Hotels in Wan Chai, Admiralty and Central price accordingly and fill early; Tsim Sha Tsui, one MTR stop under the harbour, is the standard overflow. Fair tickets are sold by the fairs themselves, timed entry at Basel, and the popular days sell out. Base yourself near an MTR station on the Island or Tsuen Wan lines and the whole week, fairs, galleries, museums and the festival, sits within a few stops; the Wan Chai and Central guides cover what else is on in the two fair districts.
